Jewish Apartments and Services

Jewish Apartments & Services provides residences and support services for older adults who are able to function independently and maintain their own quarters.

Needs:

  • Clerical support
  • Data input
  • Building greeters
  • Newsletter typists
  • Library organizers
  • Friendly visitors
  • Golf cart driver
  • Performers

Jewish Community Center

Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, at its locations in Oak Park and West Bloomfield, provides a variety of cultural, social, educational and recreational programs and services within a Jewish context. The JCC has many departments with diverse opportunities for volunteers.

Needs:

  • Office Assistants: general office support, such as answering phones, filing, and mailings
  • Membership: welcoming individuals as they enter, directions, information, tours of the agency, distributing mail

Jewish Family Service

Jewish Family Service offers social and mental health programs and services for people of all ages, including individual, family and group counseling. Included with these services is the resettlement of new Americans into the community, financial services to individuals and families, adoption, domestic violence and substance abuse programs and case management; homecare, and transportation for older adults.

Needs:

  • Friendly visitors for older adults
  • Phone friends for homebound individuals
  • Mentors and reading tutors for children
  • Hospice care
  • Tutors for new Americans
  • Office services

Jewish Home & Aging Services

Jewish Home & Aging Services offers residential care for older adults requiring special assistance in the Fleischman Residence/Blumberg Plaza, a licensed home for aged. JHAS offers outreach services to Jewish residents of care facilities in the tri-county area.

Needs:

  • Fleischman Residence/Blumberg Plaza: trip escorts, entertainment hosts, makeup artists, craft leaders, performers, social dancers.

  • Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program: friendly visitors, religious service leaders, participating in Jewish religious, cultural and memory programs at tri-county care facilities, office clerical work.

  • Guardianship Program: visiting and monitoring care of Guardianship clients.

  • Nosh Nooks and Gift Shops: volunteers for Menorah House, Fleischman Residence, Danto Family Health Care Center.

Jewish Vocational Service

Jewish Vocational Service provides job placement, career development, mental health services, vocational rehabilitation, adult day care and other specialized senior services. JVS has many volunteer opportunities for those interested in working with older adults.

Needs:

  • Staff assistance in providing direct client service, such as to adults with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness in vocational or recreational settings
  • Visiting isolated elderly in their homes
  • Helping in the dementia-specific day care program by serving meals, sharing music/gardening talents or accompanying group on outings
